Roman jug

This sculpture is made from a large elm burl. It was made by mounting the wood to a traditional wood lathe and turning it off-centre. The natural edge of the burl gives the vase the look that something is missing or broken away. I hope that this gives the sculpture the look of an Ancient Roman jug  that has just been excavated. I have always had an interest in history and I hope this comes through in this piece. The vase is all handmade and I have used an additional woodturning tool to slow carve away pieces, in the hope that the vase looks completely different from different angles and perspectives. If you are interested in seeing the different stages in this piece being made, this sculpture is 23inch tall and 17inch wide so this is not a small piece by any means
