Elm Burl Greek-style Vase Sculpture

This vase is made from a large elm burl. It was made by mounting the wood to a traditional wood lathe and turning it off-centre. The natural edge of the burl gives the vase the look that something is missing or broken away. I hope that this gives the vase the look of an Ancient Greek Vase that has just been excavated. I have always had an interest in history and I hope this comes through in this piece. The vase is all handmade and I have used an additional woodturning tool to slow carve away pieces, in the hope that the vase looks completely different from different angles and perspectives.
